Pressure Cooking (Audio inside)

Pressure cooker-Fastest way to cook but is it really nutritious? Let's find out.

Pressure Cooker or pressure to Our Stomach?

Interestingly with today’s busy and pressured lifestyle, pressure cooking is the one of the most common cooking methods in India and has become a way of life for us.

What is Pressure Cooking? Have we ever considered the impacts it may have on us?

In simple language, pressure cooking is the process of cooking food at high pressure employing water in a sealed vessel known as pressure cooker. High-pressure limits boiling and cook food in half the time required for conventional cooking. Though it saves time, it breaks your food or softens your food while destroying all the micronutrients from it. It does not necessarily mean that the food gets cooked or can be easily digested. Thus, the body does not absorb vital nutrients from the food and thereby may cause Diabetes, Asthma and forty-eight other different ailments, as per Ayurveda.

Moreover, most pressure cookers are made of aluminium that may leach into our food. Several scientific studies say if aluminium content through our food gets deposited in our neurons it can lead to several neurological disorders. Aluminium containers are banned in most European countries like Germany etc. I wonder is this the reason why Britishers introduced aluminium utensils into our Jail system to serve food as one of the ways to torture our then freedom fighters.

Ideally, foods should be cooked slowly on low flame to maintain their flavors and nutrients. Ayurveda says, the longer an item takes to ripen in the field, the longer it should take to cook at home. Slow cooking retains the nutrients, cooked food which can be easily digested by our body and thus actually saves us from acidity. Mineral and vitamin content in properly digested food are easily absorbed by our body. Better absorption of minerals and vitamins improves our immunity, health, and dynamism.

So, make the right and bright choice. We suggest that traditional techniques of cooking and eating in earthen pots should be adopted as they are healthier. In case if you have missed reading our Best Cooking Ware blog.
