"doodh doodh doodh doodh, piyo glass full" remember this? we used to make faces in our childhood for drinking milk but let's hear how important it is to drink milk and which milk to drink.

Welcome. Today, we are going to talk about Milk. You might have a question on what is there to talk about?. We have been drinking milk since our childhood and we all know it is good for our health 😊. Let’s find out the truth.
Earlier days milk used to get delivered in glass bottles which now has changed to tetra packs or plastic bags. The milk that we have is either cow milk or buffalo milk or a mixture of these two.
Let’s understand the difference between cow milk and buffalo milk:
1. Buffalo milk is thicker and creamier than cow milk.
2. Buffalo milk has more fat than cow milk.
So more FAT means more time to digest. Apart from this, there are a number of other reasons why we should prefer cow milk. The only people who are into weightlifting, bodybuilding, etc. must drink buffalo milk as per Ayurveda.
Since we have agreed Cow milk is the best option. Let’s look at which cow milk is good for drinking
On a high level, there are two types of cows - Desi and Jersey.
In cities, we mostly drink Jersey Cow milk. It is proven scientifically that Jersey Cow Milk has a component called BCM7 which is not good for us and can lead to different illnesses.
If you look closely at Desi and Jersey cow, you will see a hump on desi cow. The hump on the back of the desi cow has the power to absorb the sun’s energy with the help of “solar pulse”. In Ayurveda, it is called Suryaketu Nadi (nerve).
It is mainly because of this nerve, cow milk has medicinal properties. Similarly, Indian butter & Clarified Butter - Ghee made out of desi cow milk is also very healthy. This might be the reason we Indians address cow as “Gowmata”, Gow means Cow and Mata means mother. We also consider her as the living embodiment of the god.
If you are reading this, make sure you verify with your milk provider and only ask for desi cow milk.
Do share it with your family and friends so that they become aware and make the right change.
Thank you very much.
Very informative, thanks for sharing the insights.
ReplyDeleteHey Prajakta,
DeleteWe are glad that you found the information useful!
Thanks Bhabani and we are glad it was useful for you!
ReplyDeleteHi! Useful info. I buy Chitale's cow's milk. Will I get info on google if their cows are desi?
ReplyDeleteDear mimi, Most of the brand milk that we get in packets has either buffalo milk or mixture of Jersey and desi cow milk. It is really difficult to talk about a specific brand. Our recommendation would be to look for a local milk provider who can deliver a good quality desi cow milk. Satvik people exists who wants to do good and always keep health over profit.
DeleteWell, I am consuming organic a2 milk but now planning to switch to vegan milk as no matter a1 or a2 , cows are injected with growth hormones to enhance their milk production and impregnated multiple times so that she continues to produce milk year on year. Request you to post a blog on vegan milk as well..
ReplyDeleteThis is a classic example for Health vs Profit. Ideally we would not recommend going all Vegan for two main reason. First, Vegan milk is also adulterated, you can find lot of articles around it. Soyabean is also not good for human consumption. we should be coming up with another blog to talk about this. Secondly, going vegan would make you miss all the other goodness like Ghee , butter etc. which are beneficial and healthy as per Ayurveda. Lastly, there are still some good souls who can provide you good food however you just need to look at the right direction.
